Considering I spent the latter part of August in the GREAT state of TEXAS, I figured it deserved it's own LARGER than LIFE post! If there is one thing that I can say about Texans, it surely is the fact that they have more pride for their state than I have seen in my life. Everywhere you look you see some sort of Texas symbol. I mean I even found it on a minature apple pie for crying out loud! While Texas certainly brought the HEAT, it also brought with it a bevy of "COOL" experiences to add to my ever growing list. I found and purchased a giant chunk of turquoise ring, visited a real boot barn, ate authentic BBQ, visited various thrift stores, got lost several times on the most ridiculous highway system I've ever seen, stole a fuzzy pink light up cowboy hat from a Bachelor Party, walked and drank along the River Walk and went to the ALAMO. Sadly, after conducting an extensive search, I must report that there really is no basement at the Alamo, but I did see Pedro and his wife Inez, the residents of the Alamo. Can you believe Pedro is still working on that dang Adobe? If neither of those things makes you laugh, then clearly you were deprived of Pee Wee Herman as a child and to that I say, please go watch Pee Wee's Big Adventure ASAP. I almost bought that teal suede fringe jacket at the Goodwill Select (which by the way is not any more special than the regular Goodwill so don't be fooled if you see one) but it had a hole in it so I left it behind with the matching pants....
All in all Texas was just something else....you have to see it to believe it, but after a total of 18 days in two different cities I definitely believe it and am in no real rush to hurry back...unless of course I'm getting sent to Austin. I will say that the River Walk in San Antonio was a fun time and worth your while if you ever find yourself there. Both sides of the river are lined with restaurants and bars, which makes for a fun bar crawl, providing no one in your group thinks it would be fun to push you in.... Yes, I did in fact witness a rather large splash at one point...poor guy. And that's a wrap on August....
