..::Retro Reinvented::..

Photobucket

There are some things, with out a doubt, that should never be reinvented. Classics are classics for a reason...why mess with perfection? BUUUT every once in a while it can go right. Take my new sunnies for instance. Classic Ray Ban Wayfarers but with a rare comic book print on the inside. An updated twist to an old standby. So very Wendy Peffercorn from The Sandlot dontcha think? The Sandlot is one of my alllll time fav movies.....however the decision to make a sequel...not such a great idea. Sooo stoked on my 3 day weekend! I have so many fun things planned, but first things first...a little B. Hills roof top tanning and reading session!

I like to think that I'm not the type of person who walks around with stereotypes in their head, but I'm sure you can relate to the fact that most people do have preconceived ideas about what certain experiences will be like. For example, when I think of fashion in Colorado the following comes to mind: Patagonia, North Face, Oakley....aka casual outdoor wear. I'm not saying that I expected to see only casual attire nor do I think that is the only style they are capable of. What I am saying is that I am shocked at what I've been seeing on the streets of downtown Denver.
Let's just say that there have been several times this week where I thought I was still in Las Vegas....

To the Ladies who work in the office buildings of Downtown Denver and frequent the Starbucks on the corner of 16th St before heading into work this is for you:

1. The office is no place for sequined halter tops.
2. Leave the lucite heels for the evenings you moonlight at Grizzly's Saloon.
3. Pencil skirts are not meant to be worn with lycra crop tops.
4. Teva's should never be worn with black slacks/business skirts.

I wish I was making this up...
In other news, this trip has allowed me to break in my new Marc by Marc Jacobs utility jacket! Absolutely obsessed and couldn't be happier that I bought it. Ooo and how about those buttons I found today? I bought them when I was having lunch at this cute little market called Cook's Fresh. There were sooo many different ones to choose from but I just couldn't resist the "Starving Artist" "Train Wreck" and "Clothes Horse." Picture perfect.

..::Stop Looking at me Swan::..

This morning I woke up far too early after getting off work at 2am. In the un-caffinated haze that was my vision at 7am, I reached into my bag and grabbed my two tiny bottles of shampoo and conditioner. I jumped in the scalding hot shower and proceeded to wash my hair, but to my surprise the glob of shampoo that I had just slathered my head with, was not lathering up the way it should. Naturally, being as tired as I was, I figured I just didn't use enough the first time. I poured another glob into my hand and attempted to lather up again. STILL NO LUCK. It was at this point that I remembered I had also tossed an almost identical bottle of body wash into my bag before leaving for the airport yesterday. Sure enough through my burning tired eyes, I now saw that the bottle was body wash and not shampoo. I know some of you might be thinking, "So what? Soap is soap." But let me tell you....IT IS NOT the same. Just like cheap hotel shampoo is NOT the same as the stuff you buy at the drugstore, which is why I travel with my own in the first place. And no, I'm not one of those girls that spends a small fortune on shampoo, literally mine costs maybe $6. I figured I should compensate with extra conditioner i.e. half the bottle and was glad I did. My hair was exceptionally soft today. I guess Billy Madison was on to something when he said, "Conditioner is better. I leave the hair silky and smooth." There are some things in life that are worth spending less on and there are others that are not. FACT.
What do you spend more/less on?

Sorry for the week long hiatus....what can I say, other than VEGAS BABY. Between work, drinks, gambling, flirting, and more work there was just no time to sit down and collect my thoughts (if I had any to begin with). It was a whirlwind of a week, but fun nonetheless. After 2 hours of sleep during the wee hours of Saturday morning, I was more than HAPPY to touch down in LA yesterday and begin the road to recovery. My motto has always been a 2 night maximum in Sin City, so you can imagine what its like to spend 8 days/nights surrounded by temptation 24 hours a day. ROUGH. Trying to enjoy the hot minute that I've been home before heading to Denver tmrw afternoon. I've been so busy its crazy, but you know I love crazy. Speaking of crazy, I have a new found weakness for tattoos...well tattoos on a specific someone that is...

..::Fuck the Lemons & Bail::..

Photobucket

Every once in a while we all get the short end of the stick. In time we learn that's just a part of life. We have two options when life hands us lemons:

1. Make a cocktail
or
2. Fuck the lemons and bail

As frustrated as I am with some last minute travel plans with work, I'm choosing option #1 and spending my one day off this week at the beach doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and then grabbing drinks with friends. I love a good lemon.

Tokyo, Japan 9:40am on Tuesday, July 13, 2010

I just got done working all night and I can't stop thinking about eating chips and guacamole. Then I came across this picture and naturally now all I can think about are CHANEL iced brownies. Seriously, I know this is such a tangent, but you know that feeling when you just want something so bad and nothing you try will be able to replace it? I mean let's get real for a minute...I'm in Japan (not that I don't love the cuisine here) but I'm not finding chips and guac anytime soon...at least none to the caliber I want so I'm not even going down that route. Who wants to meet me at LAX on Thursday morning with chips and guac and something CHANEL? I pay in favors....
Clearly I'm delirious from lack of sleep...sweet dreams for me, Good night moon.

You know you've made it when...

Yesterday I headed to the airport in Korea to jump over to Japan for the last leg of Asiapalooza. After minimal sleep, a long shuttle ride to the airport, and a long night at work the previous night I was EXHAUSTED by the time I finally checked into my gate at Korean Air. When I handed over my passport I was slightly irritated when the man at the counter told me he couldn't "find" my ticket in the system. He then proceeded to stop the luggage conveyor belt and chase down my suitcase, which he had already sent to the plane. Minutes later my ticket miraculously popped up in the system and I expressed my interest in an aisle seat if possible. Then next thing I know, he was telling me I've been upgraded to business class due to my "ELITE STATUS." Yeah, that's right...I have ELITE STATUS with Korean Air. I suppose I shouldn't have been as shocked as I was to hear this, for the mere fact that I've spent more nights in Japan in the last 3 months than I have in my new apartment. In any case, my flight to Japan was most enjoyable as I was able to recline completely horizontal and ZONK out for the entire flight, which after being up for nearly 24 hours was the best thing that could happen to a girl traveling a ridiculously busy Asiapalooza schedule. Love that I'm back in Japan getting to see my Japanese friends and seeing the work that I did the previous 2 trips come to life. Its a pretty amazing feeling. My only hope upon leaving here in 3 days is that my new ELITE STATUS will bring me home the same way I got here...plenty of free wine, one large sleeping pill and the opportunity to be horizontal the entire 13 hour flight.

..::Lost Days::..

Photobucket

I landed in Korea at 6am on Friday morning and to say I hit the ground running would be the understatement of the year. Its been non-stop since I left the states, but I swear I feel like I've literally been missing days out of my week and now its already Saturday here! The hotel I'm staying at in Korea is arguably the MOST AMAAZZZING hotel I've stayed in - well top 3 at the very least, but I'm far too exhausted to even think of anything better at this very moment. Upon arrival they presented me with this lil array of treats which naturally made my morning. Who doesn't love dessert for breakfast after a red-eye flight? Yesterday I was able to have tea in the lounge on the 27th floor and as I was sitting there looking out the floor to ceiling windows at the city, it started to thunderstorm. It was such an amazing thing to see and it was over in a matter of minutes. I am now addicted to VANILLA flavored tea. I've never had it, nor can I ever remember seeing it before, but now I'm totally hooked. I can't wait for tea time this afternoon, but now its time to catch some ZZZs due to working thru the night last night. In other news, looks like I'll be heading to Vegas for 8 days, two days after I land in the US from Japan. Can't wait to see what hotel they put me in. Crossing my fingers for one with a great pool!

P.S. The macarons here are to die for - the mini pink one in the pic was strawberry which is now in the running for my fav flavor next to lemon.

Life on the road is exhilarating, but at most times not as glamourous as everyone believes. Just like all jobs, there are downsides, but I like to think that seeing the world on someone else's dime is one of the perks of my job. Perk #1 of Asiapalooza is that we got put up in the Mandarin Oriental in the Philippines and it's absolutely gorgeous. Everyone here has been EXTREMELY helpful and VERY POLITE! Since my time here is limited (41 hours) I tried to make the best of it by hitting up the pool for a couple of hours today before I head into work a 14 hour shift. Luckily for me, I also love my work, so those 14 hours should literally fly by just in time for me to do a little sight seeing before I fly off for Korea tomorrow evening. I'm sorry for the lack of pictures, but I'm trying my best! How cool are these lil taxi/buses? They are all over the place and each one is decorated differently and stops at limited stops, which are indicated in writing on the sides. People literally hop on and off them soooo quickly into moving traffic, its crazy, but fun to watch the way they maneuver in the bustling city streets. Time for this lil traveler to catch a few ZZZ before the work night begins. Asiapalooza is going to be quite the whirlwind (3 countries in 11 days) let's see if I can keep up.

..::Stars, Stripes, & Sun::..

Photobucket

For most children Christmas is without a doubt their favorite holiday, but for me it was ALWAYS the 4th of July. There was just something magical about the entire day from the festive outfits to the parade and fireworks show. The past couple of months have really flown by and I can hardly believe that its July, but I suppose that's all part of the globetrotting lifestyle. Speaking of globetrotting, I just might be headed to the Philippines on Monday night! This extra long weekend is more than well deserved and I'm sooooo excited for all the festivities, starting with the beach today and First Friday tonight. But first on the agenda is finding the perfect red, white and blue ensemble, which is one of the things I love most about this holiday, okay I love any excuse to shop. Although my festive outfit options used to mirror those in the first photo with head to toe stars and stripes, I think I'll opt for something a little more subtle this year (or maybe not). SO happy its a no work payday Friday just when I need one most!

I had one of those "I love my job" kind of days, which was nice because it more than made up for the fact that Tuesday and Wednesday were both 13+ hour days where I had some other choice words about my work. We finished work around 11am, which then became the official kick off to my holiday weekend. We spent the rest of the afternoon hanging by the hotel pool drinking cocktails and talking fashion aka the perfect "work" day. After an nice afternoon nap, I was doing some research and came across Jamie Nelson's website where I spent a good hour clicking around and falling in LOVE. Yep, today was a fairytale kind of day <3
