..::Communication-NATION::..

2011. Here we are. The age of being "CONNECTED." Technological advancements have made it possible to communicate in various ways, but are we really saying anything anymore? Lately I've become obsessed with the good old fashion telephone as a means of communication. And I'm not talking about using it to text. I mean actually picking up the phone, dialing a number and having a conversation with the person on the other end of the line. It was brought to my attention several months ago that I don't use the telephone nearly as much as I used to. Its all texts, e-mails, g-chats, the occasional sign language....but never the actual phone. When my phone does ring its such a thrill. Over the last couple of weeks I've found myself getting lost in conversations that last for hours (doesn't hurt that person on the other end of the line is extremely cute). I feel as if I'm back in grade school where I would rush home from school and sit on the phone all night while doodling in my notebook on the floor of my bedroom ignoring complaints from other family members as I tied up the phone line. Is the telephone quickly becoming as antiquated as snail mail? Let's be honest, I don't even have a landline anymore. My reaction to an actual phone call is similar to when I open my mailbox and see something inside, even if it is a bill, because these days even those are becoming obsolete. What will happen if we continue down this information super highway? I'm putting my foot down. This year I'm going to use my phone to have conversations, not text-versations.
